Alaafin-Elect Pledges to Tackle Youth Unemployment and Boost Socioeconomic Growth

The newly elected Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, has vowed to address youth unemployment by creating opportunities that will keep graduates off the streets. The revered monarch has outlined strategic initiatives aimed at equipping young people with relevant vocational skills while also introducing advanced training in cybersecurity to help them secure well-paying jobs locally rather than seeking opportunities abroad.

In a statement issued by the Director of Media and Publicity to the Alaafin, Bode Durojaiye, the traditional ruler reaffirmed his commitment to youth empowerment as a core priority of his reign. The monarch acknowledged the challenges faced by graduates with degrees and higher national diplomas in securing jobs and emphasized the need for specialized skills that align with the evolving digital economy. He expressed confidence that cybersecurity training would not only provide employment opportunities but also help in reducing brain drain.

Oba Owoade also pledged to build upon the legacies of his predecessor, the late Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, particularly in the areas of cultural preservation and promotion of traditional festivals such as the revered Sango and Oranmiyan festivals. These festivals, he stated, are integral to the rich heritage of the Oyo Kingdom and will be enhanced to attract global recognition, tourism, and investment.

In addition to youth empowerment, the monarch has placed a strong emphasis on supporting widows and widowers through targeted initiatives that will enhance their economic independence. By introducing sustainable programs, he aims to improve their standard of living and integrate them into productive sectors of the economy.

Health infrastructure development has also been identified as a key focus of the new Alaafin’s administration. Oba Owoade has already engaged in discussions with international organizations that have pledged support for his vision of modernizing healthcare facilities within the Oyo Kingdom. The monarch is determined to ensure that his tenure is remembered for making significant advancements in the health sector, thereby improving access to quality medical services for the people.

Furthermore, the Alaafin-Elect has taken a strong stance on the repatriation of Yoruba cultural artifacts that were taken by the British during the 1895 expedition. The monarch has initiated diplomatic engagements with relevant authorities to facilitate the return of these invaluable cultural treasures. His objective is to restore the historical and artistic legacy of the Oyo Kingdom, ensuring that future generations connect with their heritage in its original form.

With a vision rooted in development, cultural preservation, and economic empowerment, Oba Abimbola Owoade is set to usher in a new era for the Oyo Kingdom. His commitment to tackling unemployment, strengthening health systems, and reclaiming cultural heritage marks a progressive approach to traditional leadership.
