A fire on Thursday razed part of the plank market located at Pipeline Street in the Ikotun area of Lagos. The blaze affected four shops in the market but was quickly brought under control by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
In a statement, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Olufemi Damilola Oke Osanyintolu, praised the prompt response of the Agency’s Dolphin Response Team from Igando and the efficient coordination with other responders at the scene. Their swift action prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings.
Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed that while the cause of the fire could not be immediately determined, there were no fatalities or injuries reported. The fire was effectively contained, minimizing further damage to the market.
This incident followed another fire outbreak earlier in the day at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO) office in Oshodi, where the fire was caused by the overheating of a generator. Like the market fire, the situation was swiftly handled, with no casualties or injuries reported.
