Manchester United legend Jaap Stam has slammed Marcus Rashford for suggesting he’s ready to leave the club amidst a period of poor form. The former Red Devils defender expressed disappointment with Rashford’s comments, arguing that it represents the easy way out rather than facing the challenge and working through the criticism.
Rashford, who has struggled to find consistent form under various managers, has faced heavy criticism from both fans and pundits alike. The England international has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford since the summer, and his recent remarks only fueled further speculation about his future.
Stam, speaking to Goal, stated, I think saying you want to leave is the easy way out because it’s been a tough period and he’s faced a lot of criticism for his performances, but we haven’t seen enough fight on the pitch.
He further added that if Rashford had shown more effort on the field, the public perception of him might have been more positive. I think if he was showing that, then there would be a different mood towards him and more credit being paid to him.
While Stam acknowledged that a move away might be beneficial for both Rashford and Manchester United, he emphasized that he would have preferred to see the forward give everything for the club before making such a decision.
