Shina Akanni, known as Scorpido, has addressed concerns about conflicts in Fuji music. In a recent interview with Saturday Beats, he reassured fans that these fights are not a threat to the genre’s future. “It has happened before. If it didn’t, Fuji wouldn’t exist. The fights are already ending,” he explained. Akanni believes conflicts are part of the competitive nature of the industry. “Fights happen everywhere, even in the marketplace. No matter how wise you are, conflicts will happen. That’s what keeps the craft interesting.”
Akanni also shared his thoughts on the challenges between older and younger artistes. He said younger artistes are often unwilling to take advice. “They can’t be given advice. Most of them do what they planned anyway,” he stated. He added that, unlike his experience with the late Barrister, many younger artistes dismiss traditional wisdom as “old school.” “That’s why many artistes don’t stay relevant for long,” he noted.
As he prepares for his upcoming album, Akanni reflected on the current state of the industry. He believes many young artistes neglect proper rehearsal before releasing music. “I’m rehearsing for my album. Many young artistes don’t take practice seriously,” he said.
Akanni’s last album, Anybody Can Dance (ABCD), was a success. “It was well received by fans and is doing well on streaming platforms,” he shared.
Finally, Akanni rejected the notion that Fuji music is not serious. “Fuji is not child’s play, though some think it is. It’s a serious job that takes you to different countries. That’s why I take it seriously,” he concluded.
