Manchester United head coach, Ruben Amorim, has confirmed that the club has triggered a one-year extension to Harry Maguire’s contract.
Maguire, who joined United from Leicester City in 2019, was set to see his deal expire this summer. However, with the extension, his contract will now run until June 2026. The 31-year-old defender has made 222 appearances, scored 12 goals, and won two major trophies at Man United.
Ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match against Liverpool at Anfield, Amorim addressed the contract situation in a press conference. He emphasized that the club needs Maguire’s contribution.
I spoke with him [Harry] this morning and I told him he has to improve on the pitch, we need him a lot. Also, he has to improve as a leader, Amorim said.
Amorim also confirmed that Amad Diallo is close to signing a new contract with the club.
