A Nollywood filmmaker and Lagos socialite, Aishat Elediye, were arrested for their involvement in major illicit drug activities. The arrest followed a successful operation by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
On New Year’s Day, NDLEA operatives intercepted a truck with 1,540 kilograms of imported cannabis in Lagos. The truck, driven by one of Elediye’s staff members, Abideen Adio, was followed by a raid on her mansion in Okota. Elediye, known as “Iya Ruka” in the drug world, had been a fugitive for years.
In a separate operation, filmmaker and motivational speaker Emeka Mbadiwe was arrested in Lekki. He was allegedly involved in a shipment of 17.3 kilograms of cannabis from the United States. The drugs were hidden in large wooden boxes.
The NDLEA also cracked down on a group producing drug-laced cupcakes in Ilorin and arrested other suspects involved in drug smuggling and trafficking across the country.
