Police Officer Arrested, Okoya Sons Face No Consequences for Naira Abuse Video

A viral video featuring a Nigerian police officer assisting billionaire businessman Razaq Okoya’s sons in flaunting bundles of cash has sparked outrage on social media, leading to an uproar over perceived inequality in the legal system. The video, shared by Raheem Okoya, a musician, shows the officer carrying stacks of N1000 notes while the Okoya brothers, Raheem and Wahab, danced and showered the cash in celebration of a new song, “Credit Alert.”

Following the video’s circulation, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) issued a statement on Friday confirming that the officer in question had been identified and detained for disciplinary action. The NPF condemned the officer’s actions, calling it unethical and affirming their commitment to maintaining the core values of the police force. The statement, however, failed to address the role of the billionaire’s sons in the incident.

This has left social media users enraged, with many questioning why only the police officer was arrested while the Okoya brothers seemingly faced no repercussions for what some termed “naira abuse.” Critics argue that the law is applied unfairly, with the poor bearing the brunt of the punishment while the wealthy escape accountability. Many users have demanded that the Okoya sons be held responsible for their actions, citing the double standards in the justice system.

One commenter, Ye_am_chichi, questioned why the officer was arrested instead of the Okoya sons who provided the money, while others, like Oba K Solo, noted that in Nigeria, it is often the poor who are punished for crimes that the wealthy can easily get away with. The debate continues to gain traction as people push for more accountability, not only for the police officer but also for the influential figures involved in the controversial video.

As the discussion unfolds, many Nigerians are calling for a more equitable legal system that holds all individuals, regardless of their wealth or status, to the same standard of justice.
