The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has imposed a fine of N3 million on Nasarawa United for breaching its rules during their match against Rivers United on December 22, 2024. The Lafia-based club will pay N1 million each for three separate violations: encroachment on the pitch, failure to ensure proper conduct of their team and supporters, and failure to provide adequate security.
This sanction comes after Nasarawa United’s supporters assaulted centre referee Musibaudeen Ibrahim following the match. In addition to the fine, Nasarawa United will also have three points and three goals deducted from their total for the assault on the referee.
The club has been instructed to identify and prosecute the individual(s) responsible for the attack, with updates on their progress to be submitted to the NPFL within seven days. Nasarawa United has 48 hours to appeal the sanctions.
