Suspected terrorists attacked the Ekklesiyar Yanu’wa a Nigeria Church in Chibok Local Government Area, Borno State, killing two people and injuring two others.
The Borno State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the attack on Monday in Maiduguri. He stated that the terrorists fired sporadically during the attack, which occurred at around 2 a.m. on Sunday.
“We got a call from our Chibok Division. The report from them said the terrorists shot sporadically, and unfortunately, two persons died,” Daso said.
He further revealed that although there were no worshippers in the church at the time of the attack, seven shops were burnt by the assailants to instill fear among the local population.
The injured victims, identified as Esther Yohanna and Ali Yohanna, sustained gunshot wounds and are receiving medical care.
Daso assured the public that heightened surveillance and armed police teams have been deployed in line with directives from the Inspector General of Police. “We are building confidence among residents and ensuring their safety,” he added.
The Chairman of Chibok Local Government Area, Mustapha Madu, visited the affected areas, inspected the damage, and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
This attack adds to the ongoing insecurity in the region, highlighting the need for sustained efforts to ensure peace and safety for residents.
