The Ogun State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the assailants responsible for the brutal killing of Prophet Yomi Adetula, a pastor from the Celestial Church of Christ’s Hebrew Parish in Idiroko. The incident occurred on Sunday morning when the pastor was shot during a church service.
According to the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, officers responded to a distress call and arrived at the scene to find the 54-year-old pastor lifeless, lying in a pool of blood. His white Celestial Church garment was stained with blood, and his body showed multiple bullet wounds. Further investigation revealed that the attackers also used an axe to mutilate the pastor’s head to ensure his death.
Witnesses reported that the assailants entered the church armed with double-barrel shotguns and fired at the pastor before fleeing towards the border area. Despite the police’s swift response, the attackers managed to escape.
The police have vowed to continue efforts to track down the suspects, with investigations ongoing. The victim, identified as a senior officer with the Ogun State Social Orientation and Safety Corps, was also a key witness in an ongoing legal case.
This tragic event follows a similar attack in 2023, where gunmen killed a pastor and abducted worshippers from the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Abule-Ori, Ogun State.
