Kidnapping in Agbamu Spurs Police Manhunt for Abducted Trio

A heart-wrenching crime has shaken the peaceful community of Owoyale village in Agbamu, located within the Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. On the night of Saturday, February 1, 2025, two siblings and a woman were forcibly abducted from their home, leaving residents in fear and disbelief. The victims, identified as Alhaji Moshood, Alhaji Abdulkazeem Owoyale (brothers), and Moshood’s wife, were taken by unknown armed assailants in what is now confirmed to be a deliberate and coordinated kidnapping operation.

The abduction took place around 10 p.m. when the victims were taken from their home by masked gunmen who stormed the Owoyale village along the Oro-agbamu Road. According to the Kwara State Police Command, the abductors swiftly moved the victims to an undisclosed location, leaving no trace behind. This brazen attack has raised serious concerns about the increasing insecurity in the region.

The Kwara South Elders Security Network, a local security group, has confirmed the event and outlined efforts to track down the criminals responsible. Since Sunday morning, local vigilante groups and law enforcement agencies have joined forces, combing the dense forests across Kwara, Ekiti, and Osun states. Despite their persistent search efforts, as of Sunday afternoon, the whereabouts of the victims remain unknown.

A coordinator from the Elders Security Network, who chose to remain anonymous, spoke to our correspondent, expressing concern over the slow progress of the search: “The vigilante and security agents have been working tirelessly across multiple states — including Ekiti, Oke-Ero, Ifelodun, Irepodun in Kwara, as well as Ifedayo and Ila in Osun — but so far, we have not been able to locate the victims.”

In a statement to the public, Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the crime and assured the community that the police were actively investigating the case. “The Kwara State Police Command is aware of an unfortunate kidnap incident that occurred on February 1, 2025, at about 2200 hours. It was reported that unknown armed men stormed the Owoyale village along Oro-agbamu Road and forcefully whisked three persons to an unknown location. The victims include Alhaji Moshood, Alhaji Abdulkazeem Owoyale, and Moshood’s wife,” Ejire-Adeyemi stated.

The statement further assured the public that law enforcement, in collaboration with vigilante and hunter groups, has intensified their efforts to rescue the victims and apprehend the perpetrators. “We are doing everything in our power to ensure the safe return of the victims and to bring the criminals to justice,” the police spokesperson added. While the police are hopeful for a successful resolution, no further details have been shared on the status of the investigation as of yet. The authorities have pledged to provide updates as the situation evolves.

This tragic event has reignited concerns over the escalating wave of kidnappings across Nigeria. Despite efforts from local law enforcement and vigilante groups to curb the growing insecurity, incidents like these continue to unsettle communities, especially in rural areas where law enforcement presence is limited. The motive behind this specific kidnapping remains unclear, though it highlights the ruthless tactics employed by criminals seeking to instill fear and demand ransom.

In light of this disturbing development, many residents and local leaders are calling for stronger security measures and more coordinated efforts between the government and community-based security networks. These measures are crucial in tackling the increasing wave of crime, which has disrupted everyday life and instilled a deep sense of fear among Nigerians.
