A businessman identified as Richard Nomanzi has been found dead with multiple stab wounds at his residence in Ogbogoro community, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Nomanzi, 43, who was known for dealing in metal scrap, was discovered on Wednesday after neighbors raised concerns about his sudden disappearance.
Reports indicate that residents in his compound noticed a foul odor coming from his apartment and alerted both his relatives and the police. Upon entering the premises, they found his lifeless body with multiple stab wounds.
A woman identified as Gift, who has a child for the deceased, confirmed receiving a call about the incident. She narrated her experience, saying, “I got a call around 3:15 PM yesterday while I was at my business premises. The caller asked if I knew Richard Chijioke Nomanzi and instructed me to come to Ogbogoro immediately. When I arrived, I saw his body at the front of his door. When they turned him over, it was terrifying—his face, stomach, and neck were covered in stab wounds.
“With the help of the police, we moved his body to the mortuary. All I want now is justice for him and his child.”
A video of the deceased seen by our correspondent showed multiple stab wounds, suggesting he was brutally attacked. The case has been reported to the Ozuoba Police Division under the Choba Area Command.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that investigations are ongoing.
“Yes, there is a case of sudden and unnatural death. The police in Ozuoba responded to the report and found injuries on his body. The case is currently under investigation,” she said.
Residents have called on security agencies to intensify efforts in apprehending the perpetrators of the crime, as concerns grow over rising insecurity in the area.
