The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has emphatically declared that he has no regrets supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the 2023 general elections. Speaking at a thanksgiving service in Ochigba, organized by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ahoada East and West Local Government Areas of Rivers State, Wike reaffirmed his unwavering support for Tinubu, stating he would make the same choice again if given another opportunity.
Wike, a former Rivers State governor who served for eight years under the PDP, transitioned into his current role as FCT Minister in the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government following Tinubu’s ministerial appointment. During the thanksgiving event, he expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for entrusting him with the responsibility of managing Nigeria’s capital city.
Reflecting on the political climate preceding the elections, Wike disclosed that he faced threats for supporting Tinubu but stood firm in his decision. I have no regrets, I have no apologies. If the opportunity comes, I will do the same thing, he stated.
Addressing allegations of land grabbing in Abuja, Wike dismissed the claims as baseless and ridiculous, emphasizing his commitment to ensuring proper management of government lands. I am in charge of lands in Abuja. How will I go and grab what I am in charge of? he questioned, describing the accusations as mere propaganda.
Wike reiterated his resolve to enforce regulations concerning land ownership in the FCT, warning that individuals holding government lands without following due process risk losing their properties. He maintained that his administration would not bow to public outcry or propaganda aimed at derailing the enforcement of policies.
The minister acknowledged the complexity of his current role compared to his tenure as governor, noting that governing the FCT involves managing the interests of the entire Nigerian population. Despite the challenges, Wike assured residents and critics alike that his focus remains on doing what is right for the benefit of all.
Wike’s remarks underline his firm stance on governance, loyalty to President Tinubu, and his determination to maintain order and transparency in land administration within the Federal Capital Territory.
