A devastating fire in Ibadan has claimed the lives of three members of the same family, including a husband, wife, and their grandchild. The incident occurred at approximately 3:46 PM on Friday, December 20, 2024, in Ori Eru, Idikan, a neighborhood within Ibadan North West Local Government Area. Authorities confirmed the tragic loss of life, and fire service teams responded promptly to the blaze.
According to Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, the General Manager of Oyo State Fire Service, the fire broke out in an upper floor of a six-room storey building, rapidly consuming the residential space. Firefighters, led by ACFS Oyedeji, quickly arrived at the scene and worked tirelessly to control the inferno. While they were able to rescue five people from the fire, the three victims were found unresponsive, with their bodies evacuated from the building.
The swift action of the fire service undoubtedly prevented further casualties and damage, protecting the ground floor and nearby properties. However, despite the firefighting team’s efforts, the tragic loss of life has left the community in mourning. Medical professionals will officially confirm the victims’ deaths, but the emotional toll on the family and neighbors is profound. As investigations into the cause of the fire continue, this incident serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the risks posed by fire hazards and the importance of swift, coordinated emergency responses.
