The deepening political turmoil in Rivers State has taken a new twist as the Rivers State House of Assembly has called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi, over allegations of age falsification.
The resolution was reached during Thursday’s plenary session following the presentation of certain documents by the House Leader, Hon. Major Jack, which reportedly suggest discrepancies in the Chief Judge’s official records. The session quickly turned heated as lawmakers debated the credibility and implications of the allegations.
Deputy Speaker, Hon. Dumle Maol, raised concerns about the integrity of the judiciary, emphasizing the gravity of the accusation. “These documents before me simply say that the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Simeon Amadi, falsified his age in service. Mr. Speaker, this is a very serious allegation, and I do hope that this House takes legislative notice,” Maol asserted.
Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, acknowledged the seriousness of the matter, stating that while the documents presented suggest a possible case of age falsification, an official investigation must be conducted to ascertain the facts.
“The documents are only suggesting a case of age falsification by the Honourable Chief Judge of the state, Simeon Amadi. What it means is that there has to be an investigation to that effect,” Amaewhule remarked.
Following deliberations, the House unanimously resolved to write a formal request to the Director of the DSS, urging the agency to conduct a thorough inquiry into the allegations and report back on its findings.
This latest development adds a new layer to the already tense political climate in Rivers State. The state has been embroiled in a prolonged power struggle, primarily between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
