Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the wife of the Lagos State Governor, has called on women to embrace home gardening as a way to promote local agricultural practices. She made the statement while congratulating Mrs. Aadaeze Glory from Epe, the winner of Lagos State’s ‘Every Home A Garden’ competition.
The competition, part of the Agriculture and Food Security Programme under the Renewed Hope Initiative of the President’s wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, aimed to encourage women to start home gardens and tackle food shortages in the country. Mrs. Aadaeze Glory won N2.5 million for her efforts in the competition. While Lagos did not produce the national winner, Aadaeze’s performance earned her additional rewards: N1 million from the President’s wife and N500,000 from the National Agricultural Development Fund.
Dr. Ibijoke urged the participants to sustain their gardening passion, saying, “Incorporate it into your daily lives and make it a sustainable way of life.” She added that the competition showed how agriculture could strengthen the nation’s food security.
Lagos’ Deputy Governor’s wife, Oluremi Hamzat, also praised the initiative, highlighting its potential to drive smart farming practices. She encouraged women to continue practicing agriculture at home, emphasizing that the program could inspire a better future for Lagos and Nigeria as a whole. Dr. Ibijoke further supported Aadaeze by giving her an additional N1 million, bringing her total winnings to N2.5 million.
