French President Emmanuel Macron has accused Elon Musk of meddling in European politics. He singled out Musk’s involvement in Germany’s recent elections. In a speech to French ambassadors, Macron said that no one expected Musk, the owner of X, to support a far-right movement and influence elections in Germany.
Musk’s support for the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party sparked backlash. He defended the party’s leader, Alice Weidel, and rejected claims that the AfD was extremist. Musk argued that Weidel’s same-sex partner, of Sri Lankan descent, disproved accusations of Nazi-like ideologies.
Macron condemned Musk’s actions, saying it was unimaginable that a tech mogul would engage in such political interference. He also questioned how Musk’s influence is shaping international politics.
Musk’s comments follow previous endorsements of Donald Trump. The German government recently accused him of trying to sway their elections. This has sparked further criticism of his involvement in politics beyond his business ventures.
