Delta Police Arrest Ritual Killers in Tragic Murder of Eight-Year-Old Boy

The Delta State Police Command has apprehended Mr. Destiny Ogbeh and his master in connection with the gruesome murder of Progress Agidi, an eight-year-old boy allegedly killed for ritual purposes.

The incident occurred in Owa Alero, Ika North-East Local Government Area, Delta State, and has left the community in shock.

How It Happened

According to reports, Destiny Ogbeh, an apprentice to a native doctor, lured Progress into the bush under the pretense of fetching firewood. Tragically, the boy was later found dead in an uncompleted building, with his throat slit and blood drained in what appeared to be a ritual killing.

Father’s Account

The victim’s father, Mr. Ifeanyi Agidi, recounted the events leading to the tragic discovery:

“On November 23, my son Progress went missing. My wife and I, alongside family members, began searching for him immediately. Later, someone mentioned overhearing Destiny asking Progress to accompany him to the bush to fetch firewood.”

Efforts to locate the boy initially proved futile. When confronted, Ogbeh and his master denied seeing the boy. However, following a relentless search by the family and the village vigilante, Progress’ lifeless body was discovered.

“His throat was slit, and his blood drained. It was horrifying,” Mr. Agidi said.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Upon discovering the body, the police were notified and launched a manhunt for Ogbeh and his master, who had gone into hiding. Both suspects were eventually apprehended.

Ogbeh’s Confession

During interrogation, Ogbeh confessed to luring Progress into the bush for ₦30,000, as instructed by his master. He also implicated another native doctor, Dr. Jonah, based in Otolokpo, a nearby town, as a participant in the ritual killing.

Community Outrage and Concerns

The gruesome murder has sparked outrage and calls for justice from community members. Residents have demanded a thorough investigation and stringent measures to curb ritual killings, which continue to plague the region.
