Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reaffirmed his dedication to working with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum to strengthen and reposition the embattled opposition party.
Fubara made this commitment during a condolence visit to Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, over the loss of his stepmother, Hajiya Hauwa Duguri. Despite the belated nature of the visit, Fubara emphasized its importance in demonstrating solidarity and support for Governor Mohammed and his family.
“As Vice Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, I am committed to preserving the PDP’s structure in Rivers State and ensuring its success,” Fubara stated. He highlighted the need for a united front among PDP governors to address the challenges within the party and ensure the right steps are taken to rebuild its foundation.
Governor Mohammed, in his response, praised Fubara for his leadership style, describing him as a “calculating and qualitative leader.” He emphasized the importance of maintaining unity within the party, urging all loyal PDP members to respect their respective roles to strengthen the opposition platform.
The visit also underscored Fubara’s control of the PDP structure in Rivers State, which has been a contentious issue between him and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Last week, the National Working Committee of the PDP reaffirmed its recognition of the Hon. Nname Robinson Ewor-led Rivers State Executive, loyal to Fubara, following a Rivers State High Court ruling nullifying previous party congresses.
Governor Mohammed assured Fubara of the PDP Governors’ Forum’s support and commended the synergy among PDP governors, which he said has been instrumental in addressing challenges within the party.
