On New Year’s Day, gunmen launched a brutal attack on Unguwar Rogo in Ugom community, located in the Maro ward of Kajuru local government area, Kaduna State. The assault left a trail of destruction, as properties were vandalized, and several homes were set ablaze.
Ishaya Onussim, Chairman of the Ugom Progressive Union, confirmed in a statement that the attackers not only destroyed six houses but also set the ECWA Church in Unguwar Rogo on fire. Looting occurred in the church and its pastorium, further compounding the damage. The attackers also stole various farm products from the residents.
In the wake of the attack, residents fled into nearby bushes, leaving behind their belongings in a desperate bid to escape the gunmen’s wrath. Onussim expressed deep concern over the horrific event, urging government officials to act swiftly and provide security to the affected community.
He also called on both state and federal authorities to intervene urgently to ensure the safety of the residents and restore peace to the area.
At the time of writing, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Kaduna Command, ASP Mansir Hassan, was unavailable for comment regarding the attack.
The shocking incident has once again highlighted the ongoing security challenges faced by communities in Kaduna State.
