Internet providers ripping Nigerians off – IGoSave calls for investigation of telcos

Comedian Otaghware Onodjayeke, popularly known as IGoSave, has urged authorities to investigate Nigerian telecommunications companies over alleged exploitation through high data charges.

His call comes in response to the recent increase in Internet tariffs by major service providers in the country.

Speaking from the United Kingdom in a video shared on social media, the comedian compared the affordability and reliability of Internet services abroad to those in Nigeria.

“This is the third time I’ve gone to my service provider in the UK to top up my phone, and they turned me back, saying I still have data. I bought just 20 gigabytes three weeks ago, and it’s still working—very fast too,” IGoSave said.

He called on the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) to launch a probe into the activities of telecom companies.

“Internet providers in Nigeria are ripping Nigerians off. Twenty gigabytes lasts a month in the UK, but in Nigeria, a 50-gigabyte plan barely lasts three days. How much is the minimum wage in Nigeria that data costs so much and doesn’t last?” he questioned.

IGoSave described the actions of the telecom companies as no different from Internet fraud and demanded urgent intervention from the authorities.
