Kosofe Chamber of Commerce Celebrates Excellence, Charts Path for SME Growth at President’s Dinner

The Kosofe Chamber of Commerce and Industry held its prestigious President’s Dinner and Awards Night in Lagos, spotlighting the resilience and achievements of businesses in the region amid global economic turbulence. The event, held at the iconic Fish Farm in Ogudu, brought together distinguished business leaders, public officials, and industry stakeholders to honor excellence and discuss pathways to economic revitalization.

Founder and President of the Chamber, Mr. Joe Femi-Dagunro, delivered a powerful address, highlighting the complexities of the global economy, which he said had outpaced traditional economic theories, leaving businesses and individuals grappling with uncertainty. He pointed out that small and medium enterprises (SMEs), the backbone of local economies, continue to face significant challenges, including inadequate funding and structural inefficiencies.

In a move to empower small business owners, Femi-Dagunro announced that the chamber is finalizing plans to establish a multipurpose cooperative society by next year. The initiative, he explained, will provide members with access to loans at single-digit interest rates, enabling them to expand their ventures and create job opportunities in Kosofe and beyond.

The evening was not only a celebration of business excellence but also a call to action. In his keynote address, Barrister Olatunde Adejuyigbe (SAN) underscored the importance of collaboration among business owners. He emphasized that membership in organizations like the Kosofe Chamber of Commerce is essential for achieving long-term success, describing collective effort as a potent antidote to business challenges.

“Standing together goes beyond business owners; it includes everyone who is impacted by economic dynamics. Joining forces and pooling resources can prevent businesses from folding under pressure,” Adejuyigbe asserted, urging entrepreneurs to embrace innovative partnerships.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Investment, Dr. Aina Olugbemiga, also commended the Chamber’s unwavering commitment to economic development. He highlighted the Chamber’s role as a transformative force in Kosofe, contributing significantly to regional growth through strategic initiatives and advocacy.

“The Kosofe Chamber of Commerce has consistently championed the cause of SMEs and created a platform for their prosperity. It’s imperative that we establish more such chambers across Lagos to replicate this success,” Dr. Olugbemiga remarked.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of awards recognizing outstanding contributions to various sectors. Nosak Group was named ‘Employer of the Year,’ Halvan Hill Schools received the ‘Educator of the Year’ award, Fish Farm was honored as ‘Hospitality of the Year,’ and Pharm Affairs was celebrated as ‘Community Pharmacy of the Year.’

The event served as a reminder of the vital role local chambers of commerce play in driving economic growth and supporting entrepreneurs. With its forward-thinking initiatives and commitment to fostering collaboration, the Kosofe Chamber of Commerce is setting a benchmark for community-driven progress.
