The Kogi State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers, identified as Mohammed Chelim and Oneh Mohammed, during a routine enforcement of Third-Party Insurance along Harbour Bay-EGUME Road.
This operation was carried out in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to ensure compliance with insurance regulations and enhance road safety.
According to a statement released on Friday by the Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), William Ovye Aya, the suspects were apprehended after officers noticed suspicious behavior during the stop-and-check exercise.
“Upon interrogation, the suspects failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for their movements, raising suspicion. A thorough search of their belongings led to the discovery of two locally made pistols in their possession,” the statement read.
The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, CP Miller Dantawaye, commended the officers for their vigilance and dedication to duty. He assured the public that the police would continue to work closely with other security agencies to rid the state of criminal elements.
CP Dantawaye emphasized the importance of proactive policing strategies like routine checks, which often lead to the interception of criminals in transit.
The Police have confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine if the suspects are linked to other criminal activities within the state and beyond.
Meanwhile, residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency. The police believe that community support is vital in combating crime and maintaining peace across Kogi State.
