Troops from 1 Brigade, Sector 2 Joint Task Force North West, Operation Hadarin Daji, have killed notorious terrorist kingpin, Sani Rusu, in Zamfara State.
Rusu was neutralized during a fighting patrol to Bamamu Village in Tsafe LGA on 4 January 2025, based on credible intelligence about terrorist activities in Kwanar Jollof, Shinkafi LGA. Several terrorists were also killed in the ambush, with others sustaining severe injuries.

Recovered from the operation were one AK-47 rifle, one G3 rifle, eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, four rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, three magazines, and three motorcycles.
In a separate operation, the Air Component of Operation Hadarin Daji carried out airstrikes targeting terrorist hideouts. On 30 December 2024, airstrikes targeted terrorists led by Bello Turji in Fakai and Kware areas. Follow-up airstrikes on 2 January 2025 hit a camp in Sububu Forest, belonging to another terrorist kingpin, Ibrahim Chumo. Further airstrikes on 5 January targeted Turji’s camp in Chida.
Aerial surveillance confirmed significant casualties among the terrorists, and their hideouts were destroyed. Operation Hadarin Daji continues its commitment to neutralizing terrorist threats and ensuring security in the region.
The Joint Task Force has called for continued community cooperation to maintain peace and security.
