US-Based Man Sues Nigerian Girlfriend after She Moves On and Posts New Boyfriend on TikTok

A Nigerian woman has found herself in an unexpected legal battle after her US-based boyfriend sued her for moving on too quickly and sharing a video of her new boyfriend on TikTok. The lawsuit has sparked widespread debate on social media, with many questioning the legitimacy of such a case and the complexities of online relationships.

In a viral video on her TikTok page, the woman narrated how their relationship started and how things eventually took a dramatic turn. According to her, she met the man on TikTok, where he initially started as her “gifter,” frequently sending her TikTok gifts. Over time, they became close, and he began showing interest in her personal life. He asked if she was in a relationship, to which she responded that she was single but not interested in a long-distance romance. He reassured her that distance would not be an issue, promising to either fly her to the United States or visit her in Nigeria.

As their relationship progressed, he began sending her money regularly. She recalled the first time he sent her money, it was $850 for her upkeep. On another occasion, after she casually mentioned wanting a particular hairstyle, he sent her ₦1 million. She described how things seemed perfect until he suddenly cut off communication.

“He just stopped texting me. I would call, but he wouldn’t pick up. I would message, and he wouldn’t reply. It was like he disappeared. I was confused because everything had been going fine before then. After a while, I stopped trying and moved on with my life.”

Feeling abandoned, she eventually met someone new in Nigeria and fell in love. Wanting to share her happiness, she posted a video of her new boyfriend on TikTok. That was when her former US-based boyfriend unexpectedly reached out, accusing her of cheating.

“I was shocked when he messaged me, telling me that I moved on too fast. I reminded him that he had ignored me for months without any explanation. That was when he finally told me that his wife had found out about us. I was stunned. Wife? I had no idea he was married. He never told me anything about having a wife.”

She assumed that was the end of their conversation, but the situation escalated when she later received legal documents indicating that he had filed a lawsuit against her.

“He took me to court because I posted another man on TikTok. I don’t even understand what I did wrong. How is this even possible? He was the one who ghosted me, and now he’s acting like I cheated.”

Her story has generated mixed reactions online, with some social media users sympathizing with her, while others argue that she should have been more cautious about accepting financial gifts from a man she barely knew. Some critics suggest that he might have felt entitled to her loyalty because of the money he sent her, while others believe he is simply bitter about losing her.

This incident has also reignited discussions about the risks of online relationships, especially those that involve financial transactions. Many have pointed out that social media has blurred the lines between generosity and expectations, with some individuals believing that financial support entitles them to control over another person’s choices.

The legal implications of the case remain unclear, as many question the grounds on which such a lawsuit could stand. While the woman has not disclosed the specifics of the charges against her, she maintains that she did nothing wrong.

As the case unfolds, many are keen to see how it will play out in court and whether this will set a precedent for online relationships and financial entanglements. This situation serves as a cautionary tale for people involved in virtual romances, highlighting the importance of transparency, boundaries, and clear expectations.
