The Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) has successfully thwarted a planned Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack on its troops in Borno State. In a joint operation with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), troops intercepted a terrorist courier carrying materials for the attack on January 2, 2025, at the entrance to Gubio Local Government Area.
The suspect, Murktar Alhaji Chari, 28, was apprehended while transporting components for an IED to Damasak town in Mobbar Local Government Area, where a terrorist group had planned a retaliatory strike on MNJTF forces. The materials seized included several cylinders, gas canisters, pressure regulators, and a hose, all intended for bomb-making.
The timely interception has disrupted a significant terrorist plot and weakened the capabilities of the group responsible for recent losses, including the elimination of several members and the seizure of weapons. The arrested suspect is cooperating with ongoing investigations.
MNJTF Force Commander Major General Ibrahim Ali praised the troops and CJTF for their vigilance, emphasizing the continued commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring the safety of the region.
