Fifty students from Bauchi State are preparing to embark on an educational journey to China, thanks to scholarships approved by Governor Bala Mohammed. This initiative, aimed at fostering educational development and global exposure, has positioned Bauchi as a leader among North-East states in providing international opportunities for its youths.
The Permanent Commissioner of the Bauchi State Scholarship Board, Hussaini Saraki, confirmed the development in an interview with journalists on Monday. He highlighted the governor’s unwavering dedication to empowering young talents through access to quality education abroad.
Saraki noted that the scholarship recipients, selected through a rigorous screening process, are in the final stages of securing travel documents, including visas and police character clearances. “This effort demonstrates Governor Bala Mohammed’s visionary leadership and his commitment to advancing the prospects of Bauchi youths,” Saraki stated.
He emphasized that this scholarship program is not just a one-time gesture but part of a broader strategy to prioritize education in the state. Over recent years, the governor has consistently approved scholarships for students pursuing medicine and other cutting-edge disciplines at prestigious universities in China.
“This administration has set a precedent in the North-East region,” Saraki explained, adding that while states like Adamawa, Yobe, and Borno are also making strides, Bauchi stands out for its commitment to providing robust financial support for international studies.
Saraki further revealed that the governor has addressed long-standing backlogs of unpaid scholarships for Bauchi students abroad, a challenge that had previously plagued the state’s educational system. “Under Governor Bala Mohammed’s leadership, overdue international scholarships have been settled, and the stipends for local students have been significantly increased to reflect current economic realities,” he added.
University students in Bauchi now receive N22,000, up from the previous N15,000, while polytechnic students have also benefited from increased support. The commissioner disclosed that discussions are underway to review scholarship amounts further, underscoring the governor’s responsiveness to the economic challenges faced by students and their families.
As the selected students gear up for their studies in China, this initiative underscores Bauchi State’s commitment to empowering its youth with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a competitive global environment.
