The Jigawa State Government has taken a significant step toward revolutionizing its agricultural sector by forging partnerships with regional institutions to establish a state-owned agricultural transformation agency. Governor Umar Namadi announced this development on Tuesday during a meeting at the Government House in Dutse, where he hosted representatives from the African Agricultural Transformation Initiative (AATI) and the Development Sovereign Group to formalize the collaboration.
Governor Namadi highlighted the importance of this partnership, which is projected to span three to four years, leveraging the expertise of both institutions to drive sustainable and impactful reforms in Jigawa’s agricultural value chain. Expressing gratitude, he stated, “It is truly an honor to host the Executive Director and the Managing Director. This partnership aligns perfectly with our vision for Jigawa State.”
The proposed Jigawa State Agricultural Transformation Agency is expected to prioritize improving productivity, fostering innovation, and expanding economic opportunities within the sector. Namadi further disclosed that the agency’s creation has already been included in the Jigawa State 2025 budget, underscoring the administration’s dedication to agriculture as a catalyst for economic growth.
This initiative also ties into the state’s broader development goals, which emphasize inclusive economic growth, youth and women empowerment, and environmental sustainability. The Executive Director of AATI, Ms. Safia Boly, commended the governor’s visionary leadership, describing the partnership as a learning journey that promises to deliver meaningful results. “We are thrilled to support Jigawa’s agricultural transformation drive and remain committed to offering proven advisory services to ensure the success of this initiative,” Boly said.
Similarly, Dr. Khalid Bomba, CEO of the Development Sovereign Group, lauded the collaboration and drew comparisons between Jigawa’s ambitions and Ethiopia’s transformative journey in agriculture. “Jigawa is poised to achieve what Ethiopia accomplished 15 years ago. The parallels are inspiring, and we are excited to be part of this journey,” he remarked.
