A tragic incident occurred in Osogbo, Osun State, early Thursday when Bishop Shina Olaribigbe of Rapture Empowerment International Church was fatally stabbed while trying to mediate a domestic dispute between a couple. The bishop, who was known for his role in settling their frequent quarrels, was reportedly visiting the wife, who had been ill, when the estranged husband arrived and attacked him in a fit of rage.
Sources say the husband, angered by finding Olaribigbe with his wife, believed the bishop was involved in an inappropriate relationship with her. In a violent outburst, he grabbed a knife and stabbed the bishop in the chest multiple times, causing his immediate death. The couple, who had a history of unresolved conflicts, were not officially divorced, although they had been living separately for some time.
The police quickly responded to the scene and arrested both the husband and wife. They were taken to the Dugbe Police Division in Osogbo for further questioning. The remains of Bishop Olaribigbe have been transported to UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital’s morgue.
The Osun State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that the couple was not legally separated, and that the bishop had been attempting to mediate in their ongoing disputes when the tragic attack occurred.
Bishop Olaribigbe’s death has left his community and church members in shock. Many took to social media to express their sorrow. One mourner wrote, BREAKING AND VERY SAD NEWS, WE LOST ONE OF OUR HEROES, Bishop Dr Olaribigbe Greatness. Why! Why! Why?
