The Delta State Police Command has apprehended two lovers who staged a fake kidnapping in a plot to extort ₦2,000,000 from the girl’s parents. The startling revelation was shared in a viral video posted by the State Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account.
According to SP Edafe, the suspects, identified as Princess and Prince, are a couple. The young woman reportedly visited her boyfriend’s house on December 30, 2024, where they conspired to deceive her parents. The boyfriend called her family, claiming she had been abducted and demanded a ₦2,000,000 ransom for her release.
“The mother reported the supposed kidnapping to the police, and our team swung into action,” Edafe stated. “During our investigation, the mother received the shock of her life when the truth came out. This is what some children are doing to their parents these days.”
The revelation sparked outrage and disbelief on social media, with many questioning the lengths some individuals are willing to go for financial gain. The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
The police have advised parents and guardians to maintain open communication with their children and urged the public to report suspicious activities promptly. This case highlights the importance of vigilance and underscores the police’s commitment to tackling criminal activities in the state.
