Kano Government Awards Over N40 Billion Road Contracts to Boost Infrastructure and Economic Growth

n a bold move to enhance infrastructure and ease transportation across Kano State, the state government has awarded contracts worth over N40 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of 15 strategic roads. This massive investment underscores Governor Abba Yusuf’s commitment to fulfilling his campaign promise of improving road connectivity, reducing traffic congestion, and driving economic growth in the state.

The Commissioner for Works, Marwan Ahmed, made this announcement during a news briefing on Monday in Kano, shortly after signing agreements with various construction firms. According to him, the projects are part of the administration’s broader vision to modernize Kano’s road network and facilitate seamless movement for residents, businesses, and commuters.

Among the key projects included in the contract are the Tudun Yola Gwarzo Road and Dansudau Bypass, which will be constructed at a cost of N1.896 billion. The Jafar/Madobi Road and Underpass have also been awarded for N1.323 billion, while the Sabo Bakin Zuwo Road Rehabilitation and Muhammad Buhari Road Rehabilitation will cost N2.014 billion and N4.108 billion, respectively.

Additionally, the Rijiyar Lemo Road project is set at N494.367 million, while erosion control measures along Kwanar Durba, Fammar-Kunau Kure Road will be executed at N205.983 million. One of the largest projects under this initiative is the Airport Road Rehabilitation, valued at N5.956 billion, aimed at ensuring smooth access to the state’s major air transportation hub.

The commissioner emphasized that these projects are crucial to Kano’s long-term development. By improving road networks, the government seeks to enhance economic activities, attract investors, and create job opportunities for the people of the state. Beyond just easing traffic congestion, the roads are expected to boost commerce, facilitate trade, and provide a more efficient means of transportation for both residents and businesses.

With these contracts now signed, construction is set to commence immediately, with contractors expected to adhere to strict timelines and quality standards. The state government has assured citizens that it will closely monitor the execution of these projects to ensure timely completion and high-quality delivery.

For Kano residents, the announcement brings hope for improved infrastructure and a better quality of life. However, as construction begins, they also brace for temporary disruptions in traffic flow, a necessary trade-off for long-term development.
