The Northwest Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Supporters Group has condemned the alleged attempted assassination of Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, who represents Kaduna Central Senatorial District. The group decried the attack as an attempt to murder democracy in broad daylight and described it as a political maneuver taken too far.
In a statement released on Monday, the PDP Supporters called on security agencies, particularly the Police and the Department of State Security (DSS), to urgently investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. The group believes that the attack was orchestrated by individuals or groups who felt threatened by Senator Usman’s achievements and growing popularity within Kaduna State.
Senator Usman is a significant political leader who has brought relief to his constituents, the group’s spokesperson, Engr. Sanusi Sarki, stated. His success and influence have made certain factions uneasy, and they will stop at nothing to eliminate him.
The PDP Supporters emphasized that such incidents are intolerable in a democratic society, and the perpetrators must be held accountable. They also advised political representatives to remain vigilant and security-conscious while carrying out their duties.
Sarki called on the PDP Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, to direct an immediate investigation into the incident. The Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State has already launched a full-scale investigation into the attempted murder.
