The Adamawa State Police Command, in collaboration with the military and other security agencies, has undertaken a large-scale deployment of personnel ahead of the coronation of the new Emir of Fufore, Alhaji Sani Ahmadu Ribadu. The heightened security measures come in response to strong opposition and criticism surrounding the creation of the Fufore Emirate.
The Fufore Emirate, one of five newly established chiefdoms and two emirates by the Adamawa State Government, has faced significant backlash. The creation of the emirate, carved out from the Adamawa Emirate, has been contentious, with many supporters of the Adamawa Emirate arguing that the move was unnecessary. The coronation of the new Emir of Fufore on Wednesday has further fueled the controversy, prompting a robust security presence in the area.
In a statement issued on Wednesday morning, the state’s Police Command confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Dankombo Morris, had directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, along with the area commander of Karewa, to oversee security arrangements at all key venues where dignitaries would be hosted during the coronation.
The statement further revealed that armed police officers had been deployed to critical locations, including the Yola International Airport, while traffic control officers have been strategically stationed to maintain smooth traffic flow and prevent congestion around the Emir’s palace and key junctions extending from Yola to Fufore Local Government Area.
Suleiman Nguroje, the Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, also advised the public to cooperate with security measures and report any suspicious activity or individuals, emphasizing the need for vigilance during the coronation event.
As the coronation draws closer, the security forces remain committed to ensuring the safety of all participants and preventing any disturbances that may arise from the ongoing debate over the creation of the Fufore Emirate.
