In a significant development ahead of the 2027 Adamawa State governorship elections, six prominent politicians have publicly declared their ambition to run for governor. The announcement took place at an event in Yola, during the inauguration of the Council of Elders by the Gongola People’s Forum (GPF).
The declared aspirants are Senator Ishaku Abbo, Mr. Denis Habila Gapsiso, Dr. Ishaya Inuwa Durkwa, Mr. Yuguda Garba, Dr. Musa Maigana, and Mr. Kube Dwana. Senator Abbo, who served as the senator for Adamawa Central Zone between 2019 and 2023, is the most well-known among the group. He expressed a strong commitment to addressing governance gaps in the state.
Each aspirant outlined their vision for Adamawa, emphasizing the need to tackle the challenges facing the state. The GPF, formed last year to unite the minority ethnicities within the region, continues to grow in influence.
It remains to be seen whether the forum will endorse any candidate or allow each aspirant to compete individually in the elections. Other politicians rumored to be eyeing the governorship but not present at the event include Chief Maurice Vunobolki, Wafari Theman, Caleb Andrew Myebangara, and Alhaji Bello Ibrahim Hong.
