The Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council (SNTRC) has called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to address the economic challenges facing the nation. This plea follows recent tragic incidents, including stampedes in Anambra, Abuja, and Oyo States, where many lives were lost during events organized in good faith but marred by overcrowding and desperation.

In a statement signed by the SNTRC Publicity Secretary, Dr. Eberechukwu Oji, the council emphasized that these incidents are a stark reminder of deeper systemic issues that require immediate attention. They urged the government to continue working towards improving the economic conditions, creating more opportunities, and alleviating the pressures that drive people to such dangerous circumstances.

The traditional rulers also called on event organizers nationwide to prioritize safety by collaborating with local and national security agencies. They stressed the importance of implementing adequate crowd control measures, risk assessments, and emergency response plans for public events to ensure the safety and well-being of participants.

SNTRC extended its heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the stampedes, expressing solidarity with the victims’ families and all those affected by these tragedies.
