Oluwatoyin Bayekun, the founder of Friends’ Fellowship International, has revealed that approximately 1,200 inmates at the Nigerian Correctional Service, Agodi Custodial Centre in Ibadan, Oyo State, are awaiting trial. Bayekun, known as Woli Arole, shared this during a donation to the inmates on Thursday.
He expressed concern over the state of correctional centers nationwide, calling the situation “pathetic.” Bayekun urged the Federal Government to address the conditions of the inmates and facilities.
He said, “Everyone deserves hope, love, and happiness. Our mission is to reach out to both the inmates and their caretakers. Their well-being is crucial.”
Bayekun emphasized the impact of their initiative, Hope Beyond Walls, which will assist by paying lawyers to secure bail for bailable inmates. “Everything is free. We ensure things are done properly,” he added. The initiative plans to extend this support across Nigeria, and potentially internationally.
