A woman and her children narrowly escaped death in Jigawa after a vehicle veered off the road and crashed into their house, causing widespread destruction. The incident occurred early on Sunday morning at Elpies Street, Mobile Quarters, Dutse, when a Toyota Corolla, driven by Abdullahi Abubakar Sadiq, who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol, collided with a residential building.
The crash resulted in the collapse of the wall and the vehicle driving straight into the living room where the woman and her children were sleeping. While the family survived, four houses were engulfed in flames, with three additional homes completely burned.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the incident, noting that the prompt response of the police and firefighters helped contain the fire and prevent further casualties. Preliminary investigations revealed that the owner of the vehicle, Muhammad Galadima, had handed over the keys to Sadiq, despite knowing that he did not know how to drive.
Both suspects have been taken into custody for further investigation, and the police have assured that they will ensure justice is served. The Jigawa Police Command also urged drivers to exercise greater caution, particularly during the festive season, to prevent such accidents. The community’s quick action in extinguishing the fire has been praised for preventing more destruction and saving lives.
