Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, also known as Father Ebube Muonso, the Spiritual Director of Holy Ghost Adoration Ministry in Uke, Anambra State, has revealed that security in Anambra State is in a dire state. He made this claim while presenting Rev. Fr. Nonso, a priest recently freed from kidnappers, to his congregation.
Father Nonso was abducted on December 17 while returning to Anambra for Christmas after studying abroad. Father Obimma shared that for a week, the priest was held captive by gunmen in a forest, and the state government failed to take action. Obimma resorted to using his personal resources to secure Nonso’s release.
He explained, “I had to approach a state outside Anambra to help track my brother priest. When I provided the location to local authorities, they told me they didn’t have the resources to act. I had to send N1 million to them for logistics before they agreed to intervene.”
He expressed frustration with the lack of security in Anambra, stating that even though the state receives security funding, it was left to individuals like him to handle the situation. Obimma criticized the failure of state security systems, noting that the kidnappers kept the priest’s phone on for a week, indicating the absence of adequate security enforcement in the region.
Father Nonso was rescued alongside a businessman who was abducted by the same gang. The priest’s emotional return highlighted the deep security concerns in Anambra, with Obimma calling on divine protection for the people of the state.
