10 Students Expelled and Suspended for Fighting and Bullying at Arthur Jarvis University

Arthur Jarvis University, located in Cross River State, has taken decisive action against ten students involved in fighting, bullying, and truancy. In a bold move to maintain discipline and uphold the institution’s values, the university expelled five students who were directly involved in fighting and bullying others. The remaining five students, who had a lesser role in the incidents, received suspensions, with three being handed one-month suspensions and two others suspended for two weeks.

The affected students have already vacated the campus following the disciplinary actions. The decision was announced by the university’s acting Registrar, Lady Mary Dan-Abia, who underscored the institution’s commitment to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all students.

According to the statement from Dan-Abia, the expulsion of the students sends a strong message that the university does not tolerate bullying, fighting, or truancy. The students appeared before the university’s disciplinary panel on January 20, 2025, after two separate incidents—one on December 12, 2024, and another on January 18, 2025—were brought to light. These incidents involved fighting and gang bullying, prompting the university to take swift and decisive action.

In her statement, the acting Registrar emphasized that the expulsion was not only a disciplinary measure but also a deterrent aimed at discouraging similar behavior in the future. “The decision serves as a clear reminder that respect for others and adherence to the rules of the university are non-negotiable,” she remarked. The Chancellor of the university had recently addressed the student body, urging them to avoid vices and misconduct. In that address, the Chancellor made it clear that any student found guilty of drug-related offenses, including possession, use, or trafficking, would face automatic expulsion.

Lady Dan-Abia further stressed that the university’s rules must be respected by every student, stating, “No student is above the school rules.” This firm stance underscores the university’s commitment to creating an environment conducive to learning and personal growth, free from violence and misconduct.

The punitive actions taken by Arthur Jarvis University serve as a reminder to all students that the institution will not hesitate to enforce its rules to protect the well-being and safety of its academic community.
