Veteran Hollywood actor Gene Hackman, his wife Betsy Arakawa, and their dog were found dead in their New Mexico home on Wednesday afternoon.
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Public Information Officer, Denise Avila, confirmed the incident to ABC News on Thursday morning.
According to Avila, authorities conducted a welfare check after a concerned neighbor reported being unable to contact the couple. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless bodies of the 95-year-old actor, his wife, and their pet.
Hackman, a two-time Academy Award-winning actor, was known for his iconic roles in films such as The French Connection, The Conversation, and The Royal Tenenbaums.
Officials stated there was no immediate indication of foul play surrounding the deaths.
“The investigation is ongoing, but initial findings do not suggest any signs of suspicious activity,” Avila said.
Hackman, who retired from acting in 2004, was widely regarded as one of Hollywood’s greatest talents, leaving behind a legacy of critically acclaimed performances.
Further details surrounding the cause of death are expected to be released following autopsy reports.
