BUA Refinery and Petrochemicals has clarified that its refinery project in Akwa Ibom is not 90% complete, as previously reported. The company urged the public to disregard this misleading claim, confirming that construction is progressing steadily and according to schedule.
In a statement to The PUNCH, BUA confirmed that the refinery, which will process 200,000 barrels of oil per day, is not yet at the reported 90% completion stage. The company assured the public that the project is on track to meet its timelines.
“Contrary to misleading reports, we wish to clarify that our refinery is not yet 90% complete,” the statement said. “We are, however, on track to meet our delivery timelines in collaboration with our partners.”
The refinery project is part of BUA’s broader efforts to boost Nigeria’s refining capacity and energy security. Additionally, BUA is involved in the construction of a mini-LNG plant and several hybrid power plants across Nigeria, which will add to the company’s 1,000 MW of installed captive power generation capacity.
BUA urged the public to verify information through official channels and platforms to avoid being misled. The company emphasized its long history of transparency, having completed over 12 major industrial projects worth $3.5 billion in the last decade.
The refinery is scheduled for completion by the end of 2025.
