Gunmen from Nigeria killed at least five Cameroonian soldiers and wounded several others in an attack on the village of Bakinjaw, located on the Cameroon-Nigeria border. The attack occurred early on Friday, with hundreds of armed Fulani herdsmen crossing from Nigeria’s Taraba state to target a Cameroonian military post.
Aka Martin Tyoga, the Member of Parliament for Akwaya district in southwestern Cameroon, confirmed the assault and stated that it was a retaliation following the death of several herdsmen at the hands of Cameroonian soldiers the previous day.
Agwa Linus, the traditional ruler of Bakinjaw, reported that the attackers also set fire to his home, marking the latest in a series of territorial disputes in the region. He expressed his dismay, saying, “This is not the first time they are attacking; it’s very unfortunate.”
