The Coalition of Osun APC Interest Groups (COAIG) has emphasized the importance of fair selection in the 2026 Osun State governorship election, advocating for zoning the ticket to the West Senatorial District. COAIG maintains that this position is driven by a commitment to equitable representation rather than personal interests, urging other factions within the party to prioritize fairness in their agitations.

In response to the Osun Progressives Independent Forum (OPIF), COAIG’s Director of Public Engagement and Operations, Iwolode Samuel, clarified that their campaign focuses on achieving balanced representation for all parts of the state. Our agitation doesn’t revolve around a personality like the agenda of our brothers in OPIF. We are projecting an aspiration that considers the benefit of the majority over the comfort of an individual, Samuel stated.

The group highlighted the historical marginalization of Osun West in governorship roles and positioned their call for zoning as not only a matter of local pride but also a step toward justice and equitable development. According to COAIG, giving the APC governorship ticket to Osun West would provide an opportunity to address specific developmental challenges in the district and bring fresh perspectives to leadership. A leader emerging from Osun West could bring innovative solutions and align district-wide developmental goals with our broader state objectives, Samuel explained.

While recognizing the contributions of other districts, particularly Osun Central, COAIG stressed that their push for zoning is meant to promote diversity and ensure governance that reflects the state’s unique composition. The coalition also suggested that district representation, rather than individual aspirations, should be the focal point, encouraging a competitive yet inclusive environment for candidates from Osun West.
