The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the replacement of sewage manhole covers vandalized by thieves, as efforts to restore public safety continue. His media aide, Lere Olayinka, announced that the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has arrested several suspects involved in the theft.
Abuja Steel Company, located along the Abuja-Kaduna Road, has been identified as a key recipient of the stolen manhole covers. Authorities have seized items linked to the theft and are investigating the company’s role in melting the stolen covers. Further investigations have revealed other buyers involved in the illegal trade.
Wike expressed his concern over the safety risks posed by such acts, emphasizing that these vandalism incidents go beyond theft and threaten public safety. He praised the citizen who recorded and shared the video leading to the arrests, calling it a patriotic action.
As per Wike’s directive, the replacement of the manhole covers has already begun, with the government taking swift steps to tackle this issue. Wike also promised ongoing updates to the public.
