The Ondo State Police Command has arrested 19 suspects linked to a deadly cult clash in Owo, headquarters of the Owo Local Government Area.
Wilfred Afolabi, the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, revealed the arrests during an assessment of the situation on Tuesday. He assured that those found guilty would face the full wrath of the law.
The clash, which occurred on Monday, claimed five lives and led Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to impose a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the community.
Afolabi confirmed that the police had restored calm in the affected areas. “Currently, we have 19 suspects in custody, and our records confirm four deaths,” he said.
The commissioner emphasized the police’s commitment to tracking and prosecuting those responsible for disrupting peace in the community.
For peace-loving citizens, we assure them of a safe environment. Those who choose violence will not have it easy with us, Afolabi added.
The Ondo State Police Command has promised to maintain order and ensure compliance with the curfew.
