A shocking incident has come to light in the Obada Oko area of Ogun State, where a woman identified as Odeale Fatima was arrested for allegedly slashing the hands of a 10-year-old boy with a razor blade. The boy, whose name has been withheld, reportedly took N600 to buy ice cream for his friends.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the arrest, revealing that the woman, who is the boy’s guardian, inflicted deep cuts on his hands as punishment for the alleged theft.
According to Omolola Odutola, the state police spokesperson, the case was brought to their attention on January 13, 2025, by a delegation from the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools, Obada Oko. Led by their coordinator, Olagbegi Moses, the group reported the abuse after noticing the boy’s injuries.
“The boy, a student of Dinamis Private School in Araromi, was brought to the station with severe cuts on his hands,” Odutola stated. “When questioned, he disclosed that his guardian, Odeale Fatima, had inflicted the injuries with a razor blade as punishment for allegedly stealing six hundred naira.”
Fatima was promptly arrested and, during questioning, admitted to the act, claiming it was meant as discipline for the boy’s actions.
The Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, has ordered an immediate investigation into the case. He also assured the public that further updates will follow as the probe unfolds.
This incident has sparked outrage in the local community, with many condemning the use of such violent measures as punishment, particularly against a child. Calls for justice have grown louder as advocacy groups highlight the need for stricter enforcement of child protection laws.
The boy is currently receiving medical care and support as authorities proceed with the investigation.
