A commercial motorcycle rider, Mubarak Abdullahi, was brutally killed by a gang of hoodlums in the Zuba area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) after they hit him on the head with a hammer and made away with his motorcycle.

The tragic incident happened in the early hours of the morning, around 5 a.m., when the 23-year-old, a resident of Madalla town in Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State, was attacked while on duty.

The victim’s younger brother, Bello Abdullahi, recounted how he was alerted to the incident by a neighbor who saw Mubarak lying unconscious along the Nitel-Pole road.

“I was alerted to the incident by a neighbor who said my brother was seen lying around Nitel-Pole road, and I immediately rushed to the scene around 7 a.m.,” Bello explained.

With the help of other residents, he took his brother to a clinic in Madalla, where health officials attended to him. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries later that night.

Residents of Zuba and neighboring Madalla town have raised concerns over the growing insecurity in the area. A local resident, Bala, described the Nitel road as a hotspot for criminals, especially targeting commercial motorcyclists and pedestrians between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m.

“This road is notorious for attacks. Many okada riders and pedestrians have been victims of criminals who strike at night and early in the morning,” Bala said.

Despite the gruesome nature of the attack, police authorities in the area stated that no report was made regarding the incident. This has further heightened fears about the effectiveness of law enforcement in tackling crime in the region.

The killing adds to the growing concerns over rising insecurity in the FCT, where criminals have continued to operate with little resistance. Residents are calling on authorities to step up security measures and protect lives and property, especially in high-risk areas.
