Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested an ex-convict, Iliayasu Mohammed, for allegedly killing his friend, Safillahi Muhammad, in Dakwa, Municipal Area Council, Abuja.
The arrest followed a distress call reporting a suspected homicide in Dantata Village, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh.
Upon receiving the report, officers swiftly mobilized to the scene and apprehended the suspect. Investigations revealed that Mohammed lured the victim to his residence, where he served him food before launching a brutal attack with a cutlass. The victim sustained multiple injuries to his head and body, leading to his death.
Further inquiries exposed Mohammed as an ex-convict linked to a notorious criminal syndicate specializing in motorcycle theft. During questioning, he confessed to the murder and disclosed that the gang was led by an individual identified as Hassan, who is currently on the run.
The police have intensified efforts to track down other fleeing members of the gang. Meanwhile, Mohammed will be charged in court upon the completion of the investigation.
The FCT Police Command has assured residents of its commitment to tackling crime and bringing perpetrators to justice.
