Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has been arraigned before the Isabo High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on charges of assault, obstruction, and violent conduct. His court appearance comes just hours after he voluntarily surrendered to the police following a manhunt declared earlier in the week.
The Ogun State Police Command had declared Portable wanted on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, after he allegedly attacked three officials from the Ogun Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA). The officials were reportedly on duty to enforce state regulations by sealing his bar due to a lack of approved permits and failure to meet air space requirements. The confrontation quickly escalated, with the singer allegedly leading an attack on the government officials.
Following the incident, the police arrested and arraigned nine of Portable’s associates on a five-count charge, including armed violence, felony, obstruction of duty, assault, and intent to kill. Meanwhile, Portable remained at large until Wednesday when he surrendered to the Lagos State Police Command. He was subsequently transferred to Ogun State, where he was officially taken into custody.
His court appearance on Thursday morning marks a significant development in the case, as the Ogun State government and law enforcement agencies continue to emphasize the need for compliance with regulatory authorities. The police have reiterated their commitment to upholding the law and ensuring that no individual, regardless of status, is above legal accountability.
Portable, known for his controversial lifestyle and frequent altercations, has had multiple run-ins with authorities in the past. This latest legal battle has once again put him in the spotlight, with many Nigerians following the case closely to see how it unfolds.
With public reactions divided, some supporters of the singer argue that his arrest is an attempt to silence him, while others believe he must face the consequences of his actions. As legal proceedings continue, the outcome of the case is expected to set a precedent for law enforcement actions against public figures who defy government regulations.
