Activist and lawyer Deji Adeyanju has harshly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, labeling it a “government from hell” over the recent 50% hike in telecommunications tariffs.
Adeyanju accused the Federal Government of deliberately imposing suffering on Nigerians through the increase. He described the decision as punitive and detrimental to the already struggling citizens.
The tariff hike, approved by the Federal Government, has sparked outrage among Nigerians, with the National Association of Telecoms Subscribers (NATCOMS) announcing plans to challenge the decision in court. This marks the first telecom tariff increase since 2013.
Reacting on X (formerly Twitter), Adeyanju expressed his frustration, writing:
“They just increased tariff for all phone calls in the country. The government has vowed that it must finish off Nigerians with suffering. A government from hell.”
He further warned against defending what he termed “oppressive policies,” adding that he would block anyone defending the administration’s actions on his timeline.
The tariff hike has fueled public discontent, with many Nigerians questioning the timing and justification for the increase, particularly given the country’s current economic challenges. Advocacy groups and citizens are calling for the reversal of the decision, arguing that it will deepen the financial strain on households and businesses alike.
As the backlash continues, all eyes are on the federal government and telecom operators for possible redress or explanation of the new policy.
